I know the feeling – you’re scrolling through your Instagram feed watching incredible aerial footage of the Maldives and the Philippines, and can’t help yourself from looking up the price of the drones used to take these shots. I was having one of these moments a month ago when I realized … maybe I could RENT a drone for my upcoming trip to Vieques??

After a bit of online research, I found a company called Blue Skies Drone Rental.

The Washington-based company rents a variety of drones for as little as $99/3 days. My Phantom 4 was delivered on time the day before I left for Vieques, Puerto Rico. It arrived in a small styrofoam box that doubled as a lightweight backpack. All of the necessary equipment was included – the drone, the blades, the remote control, the chargers and 3 battery packs. The box to return the drone in was prepaid, which made the entire rental process incredibly easy.

I have to admit that I was nervous about operating a drone. The week prior to the Phantom 4’s arrival, I watched probably 15 video tutorials and read 8 blog posts because I truly had no idea what I was doing. I was terrified until about 10 minutes of having the drone up in the air.

But as it turns out, operating a Phantom 4 is beyond easy. The DJI app is incredibly user-friendly and functions like “Return to Home,” “Auto Take-off” and “Auto Land” make flying this thing preeeetty hard to mess up.

Plus, I got some absolutely stunning footage:

If you want to invest in a drone eventually, a rental is the perfect chance to test out the model you have in mind. And if you can’t commit to the purchase, why not try out a drone for a couple of days to get some beautiful footage?? 🙂

And that’s where this awesome giveaway opportunity comes in (CLOSED):

Blue Skies Drone Rental is giving away TWO SEPARATE DRONE RENTALS! The first winner will be rewarded a 5 day rental and the second, a 3 day rental. They will be shipped to your U.S. based address ( sorry, they only ship domestically right now ), but you can travel with the drone wherever you want! The only restriction is that your rental must be complete by March 31, 2017.

    Hey Christina!

I love your content and your drone shots are amazing! I’m a creative who dabbles in a variety of mediums and would love to use the Phantom to get beautiful shots of NYC! I’m in the midst of shooting a short visual story of my under represented ‘hood, Queens, NY. I like to describe it as a visual love letter for my portfolio, to show love to the borough that raised me. These shots would be so great over the Long Island City pier to show off that view of the Manhattan skyline.

Thank you so much for creating such a great opportunity but most importantly inspiring my creativity and wanderlust with your content and visuals!

    All the best,
    Cynthia

I am still a newbie to Southern California (I moved to LA from Philly about 8 months ago!) and would love to capture more of it!! I would love to catch some shots of the waves in the Laguna tidepools (especially at 1000 Steps Beach – and the steps themselves!), and some of La Tour on Victoria Beach. There is a round concrete pool that gets filled by the waves there and it would be amazing to see it from above! LA just had a record-amount of rain too, and I can’t wait to see how beautiful everything is here during spring – a bird’s eye view of a green LA would be incredible!
