How to Decide What Kind of Product to Create for Your Audience

There are so many products on the market these days. From courses, templates, masterminds, and physical products, knowing the best type of product for your audience is crucial to the success of your offer. Creating an offer that is completely wrong for your audience isn’t just a waste of time, but it can reveal that you don’t really know your audience as well as you might think. So to help you navigate this space, here are a few guidelines to help you decide what kind of product to create for your audience.

Niche Down

This is an incredibly important step that should happen from the get-go. It’s a piece of advice that you’re probably sick of hearing but it’s worth mentioning over and over again. I would go so far as to challenge you to niche it down even further, especially when you’re ready to create products for your audience.

For instance, if your blog and blog posts focus on travel and destination tips, it’s a good idea to pay special attention to what your audiences are most interested in. Are your blog posts about travel hacking more popular than others? Or are you noticing that posts about budget-friendly destinations tend to perform better? This will give you some good ideas when it comes time to build the product. If you’re noticing these trends, maybe a course about travel hacking would be what your audience needs. Perhaps creating an in-depth ebook about a specific budget-friendly destination would be the perfect product to create.

Know Your Audience

Before you’re ready to create a product for your audience, you need to know your audience to the best of your ability. What are their hobbies? How old are they and where do they live? What about their yearly income? How about the problems they desperately want to solve when it pertains to your specific niche?

Start brainstorming who your potential customers are before you come up with the best product ideas for them. Better yet, offer your existing audience on Instagram an incentive to participate in a round of market research. This could be a $15 gift card to Starbucks, or if you’re a service-based creator, you could offer your services in exchange for their time. Survey a group of people and ask important questions such as what their preferred learning styles are. While some people might prefer one-on-one coaching, others would thrive with a self-paced course. And don’t forget to ask your audience what their pain points are as well. This will ensure that you solve the problems they want a solution to and that you’re creating a successful product for your offer.

What’s the Solution to Your Audience’s Pain Points?

Now that you know your audience, their fears, and their deepest desires, it’s time to create a product that gives them a solution to their pain points. This is the key to making a product successful. Additionally, your market research will inform you of what solution will fit your audience’s pain points and learning style.

Chances are if you’re paying special attention to your comments and DMs, your audience has asked you for solutions to some of their pain points already. My advice is to keep track of any questions they ask you and create products that speak directly to your audience. You could also track patterns with your best performing blog posts to give you an idea of what your audience’s interests are.

Next, you’ll want to figure out a framework or process that’ll help your audience solve their pain point. Is there a specific system you’ve created to help you get the results they desire? Do you have important information or techniques that could help your potential customer turn their problems into wins? Whatever product idea you come up with, it has to provide a solution to your audience’s pain points.

Understanding Price Points

After you’ve spent a considerable amount of time brainstorming what product idea would best provide your audience with a solution, you need to decide the best plan of action to deliver the solution to them. One way to do it is to focus on price points and package your solution according. Here are a few ways you can package your product based on price points:

  • Group programs: These products are high-touch and require more of your day-to-day time. The solution you provide is more in-depth and specific to their individual pain points, which makes group programs suitable for 4-figure price points (depending on the length of the program).
  • Courses: Online courses are popular for a lot of reasons. One of which would be the self-guided, self-paced nature. This means your audience can access it whenever they need to. It also requires way less of your time. Courses can be priced anywhere from $199 to $3000 or more, depending on the value you bring to the table and how much is included within the course.
  • Digital downloads: Depending on your audience’s needs and budgets, digital downloads such as templates and ebooks could be a great idea. These types of products normally provide a quick win to their pain points. For instance, if your audience needs help creating eye-catching carousel graphics and you’re known for your design skills, creating a few templates on Canva can provide a quick solution to their problem.

There’s a wide range of products you can create for your audience. And if you’re ever in doubt, don’t be afraid to ask and survey your existing audience on social media.

Consider the Logistics

Once you know what product you want to create as well as the appropriate price points to accompany your product, it’s time to go into creation mode. Understanding the logistics of creating your product is important, especially when you’re creating a course or a group coaching program. For instance, you need to research the best course hosting platform for you and your potential customers. You also need to take into consideration how you’ll be marketing your product. Will you rely solely on social media? Or will you be including email marketing in your plan as well? More importantly, don’t forget to create a launch strategy for your offer.

Start With the Basics

There’s a lot that goes into creating the perfect product for you audience. To be honest, it’s a process you’ll continue to learn, grow, and perfect along the way. These 4 tips will help you decide what types of products will best suit your audience’s needs. It’ll also guide you in the right direction when it comes to creating a product that will deliver the most value and impact for your audience.
