If you’ve spent any time on the internet in 2021, you’ve probably heard of Clubhouse. But what is it, why is everyone talking about it, and is it worth the hype? Clubhouse is a new social media app that provides a world of opportunity. Imagine a radio talk show, podcast, and walkie talkie wrapped into one platform. Clubhouse allows users to connect and learn by dropping and participating in conversations with thought leaders. But what is Clubhouse and what opportunity does it provide for business owners, influencers, and bloggers?

What is Clubhouse?

Clubhouse is a free, voice-based social media app that allows users to host live conversations on specific topics. Founded by Rohan Seth and Paul Davison, the app allows for live conversations with app members. Clubhouse users who aren’t up for public speaking can also listen in on conversations as if they were a fly on the wall. Some of Clubhouse’s most notable users include Elon Musk, Ashton Kutcher, and Jared Leto. As you can imagine, the topics of discussion range from entrepreneurship, business, to topics such as travel and music.

How Does it Work?

Clubhouse users can tune into live conversations or host them based on a topic of their choice. And since there isn’t a visual component to the app, listeners can play these conversations in the background, like they would their favorite podcast.

These conversations range from highly valuable, educational, and inspirational to light-hearted chats about your favorite TV shows and everything in between. So hop between conversations of various natures, knowing that what you gain from the app largely depends on how you use it and interact with other users.

How to Join Clubhouse

If you’re wondering why you can’t hop on Clubhouse so easily, it’s because the app is currently on an invitation-only basis. What’s more, it is currently only available for iOS users, even though Android accessibility is currently in the works. If you’re an Android user but would like to sign up for Clubhouse, consider accepting an invitation via your iPad.

To join Clubhouse, you need to receive an invitation from a current Clubhouse member. Current members will be gifted a number of invitations over a period of time, with new invitations generating every so often.

Using Clubhouse to Grow Your Business

Like every social media platform, Clubhouse can grow your business depending on how you use it. Currently, the app is one of the fastest-growing social media platforms with over 6 million invited and active users. Its growth is so impressive that the company has been valued at $100 million within a few months of its launch.

Needless to say, there are benefits to using Clubhouse to grow your business. Starting with…

Establishing Yourself as a Thought Leader

If you’re interested in establishing your authority within your niche, hosting or co-hosting a room based on a specific topic will surely get the job done. Use the room to provide actionable tips and value for listeners. Treating Clubhouse like a live podcast by delivering advice will help you reach more people, build your community, and establish you as a go-to resource within your field.

Collaborate with Other Users

Collaborating with other industry leaders is always a great strategy to reach more audiences. And due to Clubhouse’s conversational nature, collaborations are deeply encouraged. Co-host a room with several collaborators. But whatever you do, remember to speak to your audience and deliver value on the decided topic. After all, the purpose of your conversation is to help and reach your audience.

Moderate the Room Like a Pro

Moderation is key when it comes to hosting a successful room on Clubhouse. Not only does it set the tone for the conversation, but it determines the kind of interaction your audiences are encouraged to participate in.

The first thing you want to do when you moderate a room is to start by introducing yourself, the topic of the room, and any rules. This will set any expectations for those who are tuning in.

Optimize Your Bio

Unlike most social media apps, your bio section on Clubhouse does not have a character limit. This doesn’t mean you should go on and on about who you are and your accomplishments. Instead, write a thoughtful bio that establishes your authority and why you’re qualified. You can include tidbits about yourself to add a personal touch, but make sure you’re making your bio easy to read.

Although you can’t add links to your bio on Clubhouse, it’s worth mentioning where people can find you on other social media platforms, your website, or your podcast. And if you have a freebie, let them know where they can download it.

How to schedule an event on Clubhouse | What is Clubhouse

Be Consistent

Last but not least, be consistent. Just like every social media platform, consistency will drive long-term growth and engagement. Choose a time and day to schedule a room with a specified topic every week. When scheduling your room, Clubhouse allows you to describe the discussion in 200 characters. This will give your audience and any interested listener a preview of what to expect. What’s more, you can select co-hosts who have the ability to moderate the room during the event as well. Making this a regularly scheduled occurrence will let your existing audience know when to expect you.

Is Clubhouse for You?

There are many benefits to joining Clubhouse. You can be a casual user who observes and uses the platform as a place to learn and grow. But if you’re a business owner, you can use the platform to grow your audience and establish authority. Particularly, Clubhouse is a great place to experiment if you’re on the fence about creating a podcast.

The possibilities are endless on Clubhouse. But knowing if it’s worth your time is key. Although the platform is different, the rules are generally the same. Show up consistently and provide value, and Clubhouse can become a useful asset to your business and growth.
