Best Donuts Around the World

June 3, 2016

If you haven’t noticed from your Instagram feeds yet, today is one of the better social media holidays – #NationalDoughnutDay! Here’s where to get the most delicious, unique and (most importantly) Instagram-worthy doughnuts today. No matter where you are.

New York City: The Doughnut Project

The Doughnut Project is one of NYC’s best. All of their doughnuts are hand-crafted with fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Recommendations: The Everything Doughnut (light cream cheese glaze, poppy and sesame seeds, garlic and salt) and the Those Beetz are Dope Doughnut (sweet beet glaze and filled with a creamy ricotta cheese from Murray’s Cheese).

Washington D.C.: Astro Donuts

The official name of this place is Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken. Their doughnuts are delicious and they have a Doughnut Fried Chicken Sandwich on the menu, which should be all the motivation you need to go.

Recommendations: the Maple Bacon Doughnut and the Creme Brûlée Doughnut.

Portland: Voo Doo Doughnuts

Voo Doo Doughnnuts is exactly the kind of weird, quirky spot you would expect to come out of Portland. As in, they have a Cock-n-Balls doughnut and a Triple Chocolate Penetration doughnut. They also perform wedding ceremonies at some of their locations.

Recommendations: I ordered the Old Dirty Bastard when I went (chocolate frosting, Oreo’s, peanut butter) and it was delicious.

Seattle: Top Pot Doughnuts

Seattle’s #1 doughnut destination is Top Pot. Their doughnuts are all “hand-forged,” meaning that they are all unique shapes and sizes. There isn’t much fluff to their menu, but they do simple very well.

Recommendations: Go with the Old Fashioned. It’s incredibly moist and sweet on the inside with a slight crunch on the outside.

Sydney: Grumpy Donuts

If you’re in the Sydney area, place a delivery order at Grumpy Donuts. There’s always a dozen different flavors available at once, so you’re bound to find something you love.

Recommendations: Buttered Toast (brown butter frosting with sweet crumb of toasted brioche) or S’Mores (dark chocolate glaze with biscuit crumbs and torched marshmallow fluff).
