HER life by design

Captiva Island, Florida has a very special place in my heart. From 1993 (the year I was born) to 2011, my family ventured to our condo there like clockwork, taking a week to enjoy the sunshine and bond with each other. Captiva holds some of my earliest, most treasured memories of both the beach and travel in general.

Check out two-year-old me in Captiva, Florida in 1995:

Fast forward to 2018, The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel sends me an email asking if I’d be interested in visiting Captiva Island and showing it off to you guys.

Ummm…. YES!

How cool is that? Work taking me to a place that already means so much to me sentimentally? I was in.

And wellll, after my weekend in Captiva, I can say that it’s still the same quaint, beautiful place I remember it as from my childhood. The perfect weekend escape, the perfect place for your next relaxing girls trip.

Here’s what you absolutely have to do while in Captiva:

Stay at South Seas Island Resort

When visiting Captiva, you absolutely have to book your stay at South Seas Island Resort. The resort spans 2.5 miles along the coast, has a variety of accommodation options (condos, villas, hotel rooms, etc.) and endless activities & restaurants on-property.

Do watersports

South Seas offers a variety of watersports (jet skiing, parasailing, snorkeling, etc.) and there are also other companies in Captiva like Captiva Watersports that can ensure you have a great time out on the water as well.

Go shelling

Captiva and Sanibel Islands are well-known for their incredible shelling. Get up at sunrise to watch the sun come over the horizon and hunt for shells on the coast. There are hundreds & hundreds of shells of various sizes and colors to bring home as souvenirs.

Eat at Mad Hatter

The Mad Hatter is without a doubt the nicest, most upscale restaurant in Captiva. Set in a cute beach shack, the interior of The Mad Hatter is ‘Alice in Wonderland’ themed and the food is absolutely delicious. Eating here one night during your vacation is a must!

Eat at The Bubble Room

The Bubble Room is probably the funkiest restaurant you’ll ever eat at in your life. The outside of it is every color of the rainbow, while the inside is decorated entirely with relics from the 40s and 50s. Every room is different and you could spend hours simply roaming around exploring.

As for the food, it’s pretty delicious, standard American fare. Definitely stay for dessert and indulge in one of their to-die-for cakes!

and above all…

Soak up the sun

You are in South Florida after all! The beaches in Captiva are absolutely divine and you deserve to get a little tan while you’re here ?
