Isla Holbox is also a car-free island, and the preferred mode of transportation is via golf cart or bike. There are limited situations where you’ll find yourself in an enclosed space. The only instance where you’ll find yourself in a potentially riskier situation is at your hotel. This is why choosing the right accommodation is key. Thankfully, Mystique Holbox is doing everything they can to make guests feel safe and comfortable.

New Standards and Safety Assurance

Mystique Holbox is implementing new protocols such as advanced sanitation measures, social distancing, and proper PPE. They’re following guidelines established by the CDC and WHO, giving travelers peace of mind when it comes to their health and safety. And to limit your contact with strangers and staff, Mystique Holbox encourages guests to pre-check-in online by filling out a simple form. This form allows guests to customize their stay by informing hotel staff of any special occasions or events you might be celebrating. 

My experience at Mystique Holbox was safe and secure. Masks are worn by staff at all times, and they require guests to wear masks in high-traffic areas as well. Hotel staff is ready to take your temperature at entrances and checkpoints, and there is limited housekeeping to keep interactions with staff minimal. The main on-site restaurant is outdoors but Mystique Holbox adds the extra layer of security by spacing seats further apart. The only areas where masks aren’t required are at your designated spot at the beach or pool.

Every room at Mystique Holbox is environmentally friendly and decorated in a rustic meets tropical style. The property itself sits right on the beach and it’s set away from town, so guests can unwind in peace and quiet. Guests can book the Deluxe Junior Suite, Premium Junior Suite, or the Presidential Ocean Front One Bedroom Suite.

Every suite comes with complimentary WiFi, an in-room safe, mini bar, full bathrooms with a rainshower, and a luxurious bed. If you’re booking the Deluxe Junior Suite or Premium Junior Suite, you have the option of choosing between a king sized bed or 2 queen beds. The Presidential Ocean Front Suite comes with a living area, large terrace, and a loft, which features a king sized bed and a sofa bed.

My friend Jen and I stayed in the Deluxe Junior Suite with a jungle view, which we loved. We had a patio with a little table for outdoor dining and an egg chair for lounging. If you must have an ocean view, definitely book the Premium Junior Suite or Presidential Ocean Front Suite. Because of the property’s isolated location, you’ll enjoy stunning views of nature — ocean or not — from any room you book.

Mystique Holbox’s on-site restaurant, Fresco Bar and Grill, is the perfect laid-back setting. Order a healthy breakfast as you take in the morning breeze, sunshine, and stunning ocean views. Their breakfast menu features healthy smoothies so you can start your day off on the right foot. But as lunch and dinner approaches and you’re ready to indulge, try their lobster quesadillas which are to die for.

Fresco Bar and Grill has a large selection of both healthy and indulgent bites, but the main star on the menu is their seafood dishes. You can’t go wrong with their ceviche, since the restaurant sources the freshest seafood. No matter what you order, each meal is beautifully crafted with bright and bold flavors that reflects Holbox’s culture.

One of the more unique dining experiences offered by Mystique blue Holbox, is the Fresco artful cuisine. This experience invites guests to take part in the culinary process. You simply select your preferred meat, seafood, and vegetables and leave the rest to the chef. The chef will then discuss the components of your meal with you from textures, ingredients, and flavors. Then, he’ll return with a custom dish that suits your tastebuds.

Food aside, Fresco Bar and Grill serves some seriously delicious cocktails that’ll pair well with the ocean view. Go classic with a mango margarita, or opt for their house special Mystique Sangria, inspired by the orange, red, and yellow hues of Holbox’s soft sunset.

Amenities and Services

The amenities at Mystique Holbox are designed to spoil their guests. My favorite? The option to book a massage right on the beach. Traditional massage settings are available for those who want a little more privacy and a little less sun. Guests can also add facial services to their massages. Mystique Holbox continues to pamper their guests with amenities such as room service, cooked-to-order breakfast, a beachside bar, and dry cleaning services.

For guests who need to get a workout in, there’s an onsite gym for you to use. Or if you’re like me, lounge at the beach on one of their day beds. And when the sun gets too strong, move on over to their pool.

The closest airport to Isla Holbox is the Cancún International Airport. From there, it’s a two-hour drive up north to the port of Chiquila. Mystique Holbox has a partner company that arranges transportation from the Cancún International Airport to the port. Just be sure to make arrangements ahead of time, and check out their website for more information. Once you’ve arrived at the port of Chiquila, you’ll board the Holbox Express Ferry that will take you to Isla Holbox in just 20 minutes.

On the island, you can arrange for golf cart services through Mystique Holbox to take you straight to the hotel or anywhere around town.
